The Experience

The experience begins as the sun dips below the horizon. We set up heavy-duty gear on the pristine sands of Nantucket. The wait is part of the magic—listening to the waves under a starlit sky until the reel screams. Each 4-hour charter includes high-end tackle, bait, headlamps, and expert guidance. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure.

The Target: Brown Sharks

While Nantucket Sound is home to a diverse population of various shark species, we specialize exclusively in targeting brown sharks from the beach. These powerful, hard-fighting predators are perfectly suited for our specialized land-based night charters. Ranging from 4 to 8 feet their incredible strength makes them the ideal target for a memorable catch-and-release experience right from the sand.

Meet Your Guide

I’m Alastair Wood, founder and lead guide of Nantucket Night Hunters, a land-based shark fishing charter operating from the shores of Nantucket Island. Though I’m only 17, I’ve spent my entire life fishing these waters and studying the tides, sandbars, and migratory patterns that make Nantucket such a special fishery.

Over the past 10 years on the island, I’ve landed my share of true giants—from 800 lb bluefin tuna offshore, to 50 lb striped bass, and sharks stretching well over 10 feet from the beach. While I enjoy every style of fishing, shark fishing from the sand has become my true passion. My goal is to share that passion with you, guide you safely through every step of the experience, and help you feel the thrill of battling a powerful shark from the beach.

Shark Species Guide

Brown sharks are the only sharks we can legally target and land from the beach. Other sharks that swim Nantucket Sound waters include sand tiger sharks, shortfin mako sharks, hammerheads, and white sharks, but we are not allowed to target, land, or keep them. Our conservation-first approach and deep respect for regulations ensure these apex predators thrive for generations to come.

At Nantucket Night Hunters, we take our role seriously. Whether we are tagging a shark or practicing catch-and-release, we use heavy-duty gear to keep fight times short and the shark strong. We handle every shark with extreme care in the shallow wash, ensuring they are quickly and safely returned. For us, respect for these amazing creatures and the rules that protect them is just as important as the thrill of the hunt.
